An arc flash/arc blast can be generated by some of the following: accidental contact with electrical components, incorrect working procedures, lack of preventative maintenance, conductive dust, corrosion, accidentally dropped tools, improper installation, and equipment failure. Electrical Safety Specialists (ESS) is your leading arc flash analysis consultant
An arc flash is the release of energy produced from an electric arc instantly releasing enough energy to cause substantial damage, injury or even death. Arc flash temperatures can exceed 35,000 °F; which is four times hotter than the surface of the sun. The substantial amount of energy released in the arc flash will vaporize electrical conductors and equipment components. Copper expands to 67,000 times blasting molten metal and shrapnel outward with astonishing force and at speeds exceeding the velocity of a 45 caliber handgun. The end result of an arc flash event can cause destruction of electrical equipment, fire, and possible injury or death to electrical workers or bystanders.
